    LOOKOUT “MIRADOR DEL RIO”

    El Mirador del Río is a lookout located 500 meters on a cliff. It offers a spectacular panoramic view of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    During the colder months from October to May, we recommend you to wear warm clothes, since the Mirador del Río is located on top of the cliff “Risco de Famara” where it is rather windy and it might feel like it is a bit colder. Make sure to program the visit on a sunny day, not on a cloudy one.

    Cave of the greens

    The Cueva de los Verdes is a unique formation of landscape and volcanic characteristics of an extraordinary value. It is located in the northern area of the island, and integrated in the vast volcanic landscape of the Malpaís de la Corona. It is one of the wonders hidden in the bowels of Lanzarote, blessed with a mysterious and special mythological character.

    Recommendations

    We recommend you to be close to the guide during the visit so that you can listen carefully to the characteristics and singularities of the Cueva de los Verdes. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes with rubber soles to avoid slipping. The temperature in the cave is very pleasant, around 18ºC all year round, so you will not feel cold.

    Jameos del agua

    Like La Cueva de los Verdes, Los Jameos del Agua resulted from the eruption  of the La Corona Volcano. The word “jameo” has a “Guanche” origin, and  refers to the hole that appears as a result of the collapse of the roof of a volcanic  tube. In this case, it is the volcanic tube of La Corona. 

    Recommendations

    Comfortable footwear is recommended as the pavement throughout the center is made of volcanic stone. During summer, it is recommended to wear a hat or a cap, sunscreen, and sunglasses for the outdoor areas.

    Cactus Garden “Jardín de cactus”

    El Jardín de Cactus is a fascinating creation that houses about 4,500 specimens of cactus of about 500 species from the five continents.

    Recommendations

    We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing, as well as a hat and sunscreen in the summer months.

    CASTLE OF SAN JOSE “Castillo de San José”

    The Castillo de San José is located in Puerto Nao, a strategic place in the bay of Arrecife. It is also known as the “Fortress of Hunger” and it was built under the reign of Carlos III for defensive purposes.

    In December 1976, the International Museum of Contemporary Art “MIAC” was inaugurated and since then it has offered visitors an outstanding collection of works of international, national and Canarian artists, a program of temporary exhibitions and cultural activities. The museum is complemented by a spectacular restaurant with impressive views of the bay as the visitor stands behind the semi-circular glass-enclosed construction of the building.

    Mountains of fire

    In the heart of the Timanfaya National Park, there are the ”Montañas del Fuego”, where you can enjoy the spectacular scenery, see volcanic activity first-hand, as well as taste dishes cooked in the heat of the volcano in its El Diablo restaurant.

    Recommendations

    It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. In summer, between the months of June and September, wear a hat and/or sunscreen. In winter, between the months of October and April, wear warm clothes as it is a windy area. In the Parking del Centro, located on the islet of Hilario, be careful when opening the car door when you have parked as, being in a very sloping area, you may hit other vehicles.

    Monument to the peasant

    The Monument to the Peasant “Casa-Museo del Campesino” is  located in the centre of Lanzarote, in the municipality of San Bartolomé. It  is the work with which César Manrique recognizes the efforts of the peasants of Lanzarote, who faced the most adverse conditions to bring some life to the territory.

    Recommendations

    There are several workshops available:  leather, dye with cochineal, gofio and mojo which are highly recommended.

    Cesar Manrique Foundation

    The César Manrique Foundation is located in the peculiar house that the artist had in Tahíche. It is another of his works of art in which nature and architecture merge into a single piece. A visit to this house, which springs from the sea of ​​lava, is an exceptional experience and an understanding of the artist’s work and message.

    The César Manrique House-Museum is located in the middle of an extraordinary palm grove in the picturesque town of Haría, in the north of Lanzarote, where the island’s traditional way of life is still preserved. In Haría, the artist found the tranquillity and contact with nature that he appreciated so much.
